Shumate Employee Dies at Construction Site

At a southwest Atlanta school on Saturday June 25, a construction worker died after falling 20 feet reports Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Benjamin E. Mays High School,  for the past few months, has been under some construction after a building project was created and led by Winter Construction.  The project is expected to be finished this December.

The accident occurred around 1:45 p.m. when a metal pipe fell from a ceiling of the addition and struck the construction worker who was on a lift.   He fell from the lift 20 feet straight down onto the pavement.  This worker has remained unidentified.

President and Chief Executive Officer Brent Reid from Winter Construction went to the site shortly after the accident on Saturday.  He told authorities the man who died worked for a subcontractor.  Reid gave no additional details as he wanted to give notification to the worker’s family first.  Reid also told authorities that Shumate Air Conditioning and Heating are involved in this investigation as a Shumate crew was at the construction site at the time of the accident.  Half a dozen of Shumate workers gathered around a company vehicle right after the tragic accident.  The construction worker who died is said to be employed by Shumate

Currently, the site has been temporarily shut down and investigations are pending.
