A 17 year old boy pled guilty this past Friday, September 23, 2011, in connection to a DUI crash that injured several people and killed one person. Jason Lark from Douglas County was sentenced to seven years in prison, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The tragic DUI crash occurred early this year in February. As a result of this crash, Cheyenne Sauls, a 16 year old sophomore at Villa Rica High School died. The Sauls family had input into the sentence Lark received and agreed to this plea deal.
At sentencing, Lark said, “Every day I wish it was me. Every day of my life. It should have been me. I take full responsibility for what I did.”
The tragic vehicle crash occurred when Lark lost control of a Chevrolet Blazer on Pleasant Drive in Douglas County. When Lark lost control, the vehicle flipped several times and then hit a U-Haul truck. There were three other passengers in the car with Lark. Two passengers were seriously injured and Sauls died.
There were actually ten people charged with helping supply alcohol at two parties the teens attended prior to this vehicle crash occurred. Among the people charged were Todd McAllister, Douglasville’s chief code enforcement officer, and a liquor store owner.
Last Friday, Lark pled guilty to driving under the influence and first-degree vehicular homicide.
One of the leading causes of auto accidents in the US is drunk driving. Even with these types of accidents being preventable, many careless individuals continue to drink and drive.
