The Protecting Americans from Unsafe Foreign Products Act protects U.S. citizens from defective foreign products that have not been held to the same safety rules and regulations as U.S.-based manufacturers. As a result, many injuries and deaths have occurred because of safety issues with products manufactured overseas. The passing of this act is to ensure that foreign companies with defective products are held responsible for the manufacturing of their goods, and can be held liable to our justice system so there is redress for victims.
Richard Schlueter has been an active supporter of the Unsafe Foreign Products Act, and has testified before Congress about the importance of this bill. Through representation of clients, he has personally dealt with the difficulty of seeking justice against foreign companies for their wrongful actions. One such example includes a case where his client’s 13-year old daughter died from a defective Chinese-made scooter which took over two years to get justice from the Chinese company. In those two years, Richard R. Schlueter managed evasion from the manufacturer, legal battles, hiring translators, and other civil procedures before a U.S. ruling was successful. In his testimony the difficulty of this case was clear, as well as the compassion that Mr. Schlueter had for the mother who lost her only child. Richard R. Schlueter is more than an attorney; he is a model citizen who does what he can for others who may be victims of similar circumstances.
As of July 2010 the Unsafe Foreign Products Bill has passed out of the full House Energy & Commerce committee, and will hopefully continue onto the House and Senate floor in September.
