This past Easter weekend resulted in a tragedy when a 21 year old newlywed was killed and her husband was also injured in a tractor-trailer crash on I-285.

51 year old Jack Parsons was driving a tractor-trailer around 6 p.m. this past Sunday.  He was attempting to change lanes when he struck a Nissan Sentra driven by another young woman. After impact from the tractor trailer the Nissan was sent out of control, according to Atlanta Journal-Constitution.   The Nissan vehicle  struck the right guardrail and went across the highway.  In this process, the newlyweds car was struck again by another tractor-trailer’s cab that resulted in the Nissan flipping over and landing on its side prior to coming to a final rest in the middle of I-285.

Video from this incident and news story has been provided by Channel 2 News.

Charges are currently pending against the truck driver Jack Parsons.  The current charges are second degree vehicular homicide and improper lane change.  According to Officer Kim Jones from Atlanta Police, Parsons was booked into the Fulton County jail Sunday night.

All southbound lanes of I-285 were blocked for about two hours after the traffic crash.  Holley’s husband was a passenger in the Nissan.  According to AJC, he was transported to the hospital and may have suffered non-life threatening injuries.

This is a tragic event caused by negligent tractor-trailer drivers.  This shows why tractor-trailer safety and awareness is extremely crucial and all possible precautions be taken.
